THE RETURN OF NIVADA GRENCHEN'S GLORIOUS ERA

The history of Nivada Grenchen dates back to 1926, the year Jacob Schneider founded the first watchmaking company in Grenchen. His son Max took over the business in 1976. At that time, the company Croton distributed all Nivada Grenchen watches in the United States. Therefore, these historical watches may bear either the Nivada Grenchen or Croton signature, or both.

In 1930, Nivada Grenchen was one of the first companies to manufacture automatic watches. This led to the creation in 1950 of Nivada Grenchen's first waterproof automatic watch, the legendary Antarctic. The watch was worn by the members of the US Navy's Deep Freeze One during their expedition to the South Pole from 1955 to 1956.
Since then, Nivada Grenchen has been known for the robust and reliable performance of the Antarctic under extreme conditions.

In 1961, the company launched the Chronomaster – a chronograph water-resistant to 200 meters. There were three different collections: Chronomaster, Aviator, and Sea Diver.

The Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster was so successful that its production continued until the end of 1970.

In 1964, Nivada Grenchen released another groundbreaking timepiece – this time a diver's watch called the Depthomatic. It was the first diver's watch with a depth gauge, i.e., a bathymeter. A year later, the Depthmaster model was introduced – another diver's watch capable of withstanding a pressure of 100 ATM (1000 meters).

In 2018, the Nivada Grenchen brand was revived with its two iconic models – the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver and the Antarctic.
