Let's begin by introducing Bartosz Knop, the founder of Balticus. He started his watchmaking adventure a few years ago after returning from Iceland. More specifically, he was inspired by the company JS Watch. Thanks to the impressions he gathered there, he began searching for materials to create his first watch dial, called "Star Dust." The name itself was born in a friendly Facebook watch group – Czasoholicy. That's how the idea was born! If he created something for himself, perhaps someone else would be interested? And so he began building the Polish watch brand from the ground up.
Bartosz comes from Władysławowo, a small town on the Polish Baltic coast. So the name naturally referred to this – the Baltic coast.
The first steps were difficult for Bartosz. A newcomer to the industry, he had never learned from his mistakes in the watchmaking sector and was venturing into uncharted territory. After registering his patent trademark for the entire European Union, he set out to find a parts supplier. In 2015, he flew to Hong Kong to sign a cooperation agreement with a component manufacturer and thought the worst was over… but it was a protracted design process. The first version of the Grey Seal was Balticus's first model, and despite numerous prototypes, they couldn't avoid flaws and shortcomings.
Good ideas were hampered by technical uncertainties and lead times and delivery delays. At the time, Bartosz was unaware of this, but it took eight months to launch the final project, starting from a blank sheet of paper. Despite the difficulties, the lengthy implementation process, and the enormous financial investment, Bartosz managed to release the finished product. In this way, they entered the market as the new, independent watch brand BALTICUS.
Balticus has now developed into a serious brand in Poland and beyond, which means that Balticus watches are in such high demand that the always limited series are often sold out after just a few months.
