Pforzheim
Germany

Germany, Pforzheim, the Gold City. The story of the microbrand Circula began in 1955 with Heinz Huber in Pforzheim, the so-called "Gold City," the watchmaking heart of the Black Forest. Today, 65 years later, Circula, now in its third generation, produces high-quality watches, making it one of the oldest watch microbrands in the world.

The Huber family's watchmaking history dates back to 1926. At that time, the Pforzheim-based company founded the jewelry and watch wholesaler Huber & Co. After the end of World War II, Heinz Huber rebuilt the family business in the completely destroyed city.

In the general spirit of optimism of the 1950s, Heinz Huber also decided to try something new. He no longer wanted to just trade watches and jewelry, but also design, manufacture, and sell watches himself. He put this plan into action in 1955 and founded the watch brand Circula, which he named after the rotating balance wheel in mechanical watch movements.

In the 1970s, quartz movements became increasingly popular, almost completely displacing mechanical watches from the market. During this so-called quartz crisis, Klaus-Dieter Huber, son of Heinz Huber, joined forces with partners and relocated production of Circula watches to Villers-le-Lac, a French village near the Swiss border.

In the 1980s, the Huber family finally discontinued watch production and refocused entirely on watch wholesale. This also marked the temporary end of Circula. The watch wholesaler Huber & Co. continued to exist for several more decades. In 2017, Inge and Klaus-Dieter Huber gave it up due to age.

Cornelius Huber, son of Inge and Klaus-Dieter Huber, created a renaissance for Circula in 2016. His parents gave him his first Circula watch, dating back to 1955, as a wedding present. Cornelius Huber, who had always been fascinated by watches, decided that day that he wanted to revive the microbrand Circula and would give up his job as a management consultant to do so.

As early as 2017, he put his plan into action and launched the modernized new edition of the Circula watches.
