THE RETURN OF THE GLORIOUS TIMES OF NIVADA GRENCHEN

The history of Nivada Grenchen dates back to 1926, the year Jacob Schneider founded the first watchmaking company in Grenchen. His son Max took over the company in 1976. At that time, Croton distributed all Nivada Grenchen watches in the United States. Therefore, the historic watches may bear the signature of either Nivada Grenchen or Croton, or both.

In 1930, Nivada Grenchen was one of the first companies to manufacture automatic watches. This led to the creation of Nivada Grenchen's first waterproof automatic watch, the legendary Antarctic, in 1950. The watch was worn by members of the U.S. Navy's Deep Freeze One during their expedition to the South Pole from 1955 to 1956.
Since then, Nivada Grenchen has been known for the robust and reliable performance of the Antarctic under extreme conditions.

In 1961, the company launched the Chronomaster—a chronograph water-resistant to 200 meters. There were three different collections: Chronomaster, Aviator, and Sea Diver.

The Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster was so successful that its production continued until the end of 1970.

In 1964, Nivada Grenchen launched another groundbreaking timepiece—this time a diving watch called the Depthomatic. It was the first diving watch with a depth indicator, a bathymeter. A year later, another diving timepiece was introduced, the Depthmaster—a diving watch that could withstand a pressure of 100 ATM (1,000 meters).

In 2018, the Nivada Grenchen brand was revived with its two iconic models – the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver and the Antarctic.
